At Uintah High, TSA participation is wide and varied including Vex Robotics and many other competitive and team-building opportunities. Student leadership includes a President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Reporter, and Sergeant-at-arms. Additionally, each smaller team offers an opportunity to develop leadership skills, showcased with each team's LEAP resume at competitions. Robotics students keep an engineering notebook and showcase this at events.
Meetings take place most Thursdays in room U104 from 2:30-4 (or later), but students on each team are encouraged to get together and work on a more frequent basis, together with their peers and also frequently check in with their mentor or advisor. Please feel free to email advisor Joseph Woodard with questions, or to return permission slips digitally. |

Learning to lead in a technical world. State Website: http://utahtsa.org/wp/ National Website: http://tsaweb.org/High-School-Competitions, also check Themes & Problems (scroll down to High School) More detailed information about each competition is available to registered TSA members from their advisor. The $25 annual fee is collected through UHS finance office, includes a T-shirt to keep, plus maintains uniform attire we loan out for state conference. And a student should be in good standing with Uintah High on academics/attendance requirements. Fundraising is carefully arranged and available to all students. Participation in fundraising is optional. *Robotics participants fill out BOTH the TSA and Robotics annual permission forms. Please contact me by email for the Vex robotics consent form which is electronic, the link changes each year for each team.

TSA State ConferenceThe main Utah conference and competition is held each year in March. This midweek all-day event is held at Davis Technical College in Kaysville, UT. School transportation departs the afternoon prior and will return late the next evening.
Cost of the trip to TSA state conference (registration + lodging) is estimated to be $50 per student, payable in February. Later registration costs more, and may not even be possible. And if you place highly at state... TSA holds a national competition each June, and only the top teams from each state's competition are eligible. Robotics also has the potential to be invited to larger Vex tournaments out of state. Cost of nationals depends on the venue (Check the national TSA or vex robotics websites.) More information will be given and parent meetings arranged as soon as feasible after teams are awarded these great opportunities. Each year students elect one another into TSA leadership positions. This is a great way to grow even more. A Saturday leadership conference is held each October. Leaders as well as TSA members may register for this event. |
Vex RoboticsVex Robotics allows small teams of UHS students to design, create, and compete with a robot. Each year in April a new official game is released, with new challenges for the robot and its designers. Official rules can be found on the Vex website.
As part of TSA, robotics team(s) from Uintah High participate in tournaments at schools across the region. These typically run from October into February. Event dates and agendas are listed on robotevents.com, however UHS selects only some of these opportunities to attend. Attendance at two regional/state events for vex robotics is considered full participation for the year. Teams each have 3-5 active members. Team building and leadership skills are an important aspect of the experience. Robotics classes are available again this year. Robotics team members should still plan to spend at least one or two days per week after school working with their team during the Oct-Feb season. Thursday afternoons are a big part of this. Arrange more time as needed along with your teammates. Robotics Class fee: $20 Extracurricular Costs for Robotics: $25 annual TSA/robotics dues + annual cost of rostering with Vex + tournament fee/food/lodging cost |
